Spring Fair and Open House
Saturday, April 1st 10 AM- 3:30 PM Free Admission
Join us as we celebrate the beginning of our 2017 touring season with local artists exhibiting their work throughout the museum. Artists will have work available for viewing and purchase. Refreshments will be available for sale in our garden, with proceeds benefitting the continued restoration of our third floor archive. Admission to this event is free- no foolin’!
Mommy & Me Easter Tea
Sunday, April 9th 2 PM $30 Adults/$15 Children (Under 14)
Enjoy a festive afternoon tea designed specifically for families with children. Easter-themed sweets and savories will delight your palate, and each child will take home a handmade gift to remember the day. Don’t let the title fool you- Dads are welcome too! Round out the afternoon with an egg hunt in the garden for the children. Space is very limited- please reserve your spots as soon as possible.
Kentucky Derby Garden Party
Sunday, May 7th 2 PM $25 Members/$30 Non-members
Place your bets! Don your best hat and break out your party dress for an afternoon in our garden with tea and Derby-themed sweets and savories. An appetite for gambling is not required, but you are welcome to test your luck at a silent auction (Of REAL Hunter House items!) benefiting the continued restoration of the museum’s archive.
Paint en Plein Air
Saturday, May 13th 11 AM $35 Members/$40 Non-members
Our instructor provides all of the materials- we provide the relaxing beverages! Get in touch with your artistic side this spring by painting your own masterpiece in the museum garden. Please allow up to two hours for this event.
Victoria: A Birthday Celebration
Saturday, May 20th 2 PM $30 Members/$35 Non-members
Join us for a birthday-themed afternoon tea accompanied by a program on our favorite monarch, Queen Victoria. View historical items from the personal collection of local Queen Victoria expert and enthusiast Billie Earnest as she presents a program on the revered royal. Weather permitting, this event will be held in the museum garden.
A Tale of Two Houses: In Memorium

Join the Hill House Museum of Portsmouth and the Hunter House Victorian Museum of Norfolk for a weekend commemorating our fallen soldiers and highlighting Victorian mourning customs. Events include a special afternoon tea, tour of our historic cemeteries, and exhibits in both museums. Please call the Hunter House for details, times, and registration fees.
Saturday: Lectures at the Hunter House Victorian Museum on Memorial Day-themed topics at noon and 2 PM. Lectures are free, but please call to let us know you will join.
Sunday: Blue and Gray Tea at the Hill House Museum- $40 per guest, 2 PM. In honor and celebration of Memorial Day, the Hill House Museum will partner with the Hunter House Museum by having a thematic tea in the gardens. The Blue and Gray theme will allow patrons the opportunity to sit at a Union or Confederate table while enjoying a hot or cold cup/glass of tea, scone, tea-sandwiches, desserts, view the gardens, listen to a re-enactor, participate in an interactive activity, and tour the museum. RSVP to the Hill House at 757-393-0241.
Fridays at 11 am in the parlor, join us for conversations on various topics given by experts and enthusiasts. Refreshments provided, $5 suggested donation.
